Overall Opinion: It's hard to see the rise of internet media as anything less than a revolution in how we experience the important media in our lives. It seems as if practically anything we want is directly at our fingertips. But as with anything, the online marketplace comes with a catch. The media we want to watch and share is only there as long as it's there, and ownership of this media has become a fickle thing, leaving us tethered to the internet and subject to the demands of content owners and service providers. This is an inconvenience when it concerns a video we want to enjoy but can no longer find, but it presages far more worrying concerns when we look at how this model for distribution can lead to oppressive censorship measures. SaveDeo will likely be used mostly as a means to retain our favorite videos of kittens and viral content, but its value goes beyond that. Accessible through either its dedicated website or a browser extension, SaveDeo allows you to take proprietary content shared on the internet and convert it into a permanent file saved on your hard drive, unshackling you from the whims of providers. It's also a great option when certain content is blocked in your geographic region. Befitting the nature and accessibility of the service, SaveDeo is eminently simple to use. If you're using the web client, all you have to do is copy the URL of the video you want to save and paste it into the form on the SaveDeo site. But using the extension on your mobile browser allows you to accomplish the same thing without having to navigate to a separate page. The interface is dramatically stripped down, a functional user interface with little in the way of bells and whistles. The left panel displays the video itself, while the right provides download links for the video. Users are given a lot of options in terms of the resolution and the file type, allowing you to choose a file that suits your storage space and the capabilities of your computer or streaming device. From there, it's as simple as clicking on the link for the video you want, and it will automatically download to your device. It would be hard to market SaveDeo as a media exploration platform. Its main goal is to provide you with a simple service, and it accomplishes that admirably. But there are options to search out what you want to find. The main site displays a list of the most popular videos from the last day as well as the latest options from the providers SaveDeo supports. Unfortunately, there's no real search or filtering functionality on the site. However, SaveDeo offers support for a huge number of video services, including major brands like YouTube and Facebook and smaller names like College Humor and TED.

Pros: Support for practically any online video service you can imagine Lightweight service that can run directly through your mobile browser Straightforward and easy to use

Cons: Supported by obtrusive pop-up ads No search or filtering options Limited feature set
